FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Google announced a new feature for its Google News application. The feature is called “Focus Mode.” Its purpose is to help users concentrate on reading news stories. Focus Mode aims to minimize distractions within the app.
Google News gathers articles from many sources. It organizes them into topics. Sometimes the layout feels busy. Readers can feel overwhelmed. The new Focus Mode tackles this problem directly. It simplifies the screen view.
“People come to Google News to stay informed,” said a Google spokesperson. “But too much information on the screen at once can be distracting. Focus Mode gives readers a cleaner space. They can dive deeper into the stories that matter to them.”
Activating Focus Mode hides certain elements. It removes the side navigation bar. It also hides the “For You” feed suggestions temporarily. Even advertisements disappear from view. This leaves only the main news article visible. Readers see just the content they chose to open.
The mode is easy to use. Users tap a new icon shaped like an eye. This icon appears at the top of an open article. Tapping it once activates Focus Mode. Tapping it again returns to the standard view. The change happens instantly.
Google designed Focus Mode for readers who want fewer interruptions. It helps when concentrating on longer pieces. It is useful in crowded environments too. The option provides a more immersive reading session.
