Sony Interactive Entertainment named Hermen Hulst as its new Chief Executive Officer. Hulst starts immediately. He takes over from Jim Ryan. Ryan will retire in March next year. Hulst previously led PlayStation Studios. He built that division into a major creator of exclusive games.

Hulst now oversees the entire PlayStation business. This includes hardware, services, and game development. Sony Group Corporation President Hiroki Totoki announced the appointment. Totoki expressed strong confidence in Hulst. “Hermen is a proven leader. He understands the creative needs of game development. He also grasps the business side,” Totoki said. “His vision for PlayStation’s future excites us.”
Jim Ryan departs after nearly thirty years with Sony. He served as CEO since 2019. Ryan guided PlayStation 5 through its successful launch. He also expanded PlayStation’s services and reach. The company thanked Ryan for his long service and significant contributions.
Hermen Hulst joined PlayStation in 2011. He co-founded Guerrilla Games. That studio created the popular “Killzone” and “Horizon” franchises. Hulst became Head of PlayStation Studios Worldwide in 2019. He managed many top studios like Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games. Under his leadership, these studios produced award-winning hits.
Hulst shared his thoughts on the new role. “I am deeply honored,” he stated. “PlayStation means so much to me. Our community is incredible. I look forward to working with our talented teams. We will keep building amazing experiences for players everywhere.”

PlayStation Studios also has a new leader. Hideaki Nishino takes over that role. Nishino previously managed the Platform Experience Group. He handled product development for PlayStation platforms and services. Nishino will report directly to Hulst. Sony believes this leadership structure ensures strong continuity. The company remains focused on innovation and its player community.
